Press Digest 28th September 2009

Good Morning,

Right now I'm en route to Sri Lanka, where a recent military end game played out between the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and Sri Lankan government troops means visiting Trincomalee and Yala no longer entails contravention of FCO travel advice.  I'll report back in due course.  If anyone is interested in a few words and pics do drop me an email.

In the meantime the attached Naturetrek release is a final edition as I'm moving on from travel PR to scratch an itch that has finally proved too irritating to ignore.  From 1st October the in-house press contact for Naturetrek is Catherine Strong, reach her on 01962 733 051 or catherine@naturetrek.co.uk

My swan song with Dragoman takes place at their 2010 brochure launch in town on the evening of 6th October - contact adam@dragoman.co.uk if you haven't already had an invite.

However, I'm not disappearing from view entirely, as my association with Bradt Travel Guides continues on a consultancy basis and I'll still be the point of contact for review copies of new publications.

What form these press digests will take in the future, if any, remains unclear.

So, in the immortal words of Mork from Ork,

Nanu Nanu,

Nick

As TV wildlife presenter Chris Packham’s recent contentious comments relating to ‘millions’ being wasted on conserving species that contrive to inhabit evolutionary cul-de-sacs, rare and endemic critters across the globe scatter for cover.  However, taken in context Packham is far from anti-conservation, he simply wants resources to be expended on merit, and in an appropriate manner – not just because an animal has a cuddly anthropomorphic appeal.  Naturetrek’s 16-day expertly escorted investigation of northern Madagascar’s remote rainforests searches out some of these obscure and endangered species, including the elusive and intriguing Aye Aye. Tour departs London 31st October 2010.
